Pre-Algebra Assignments

In this math class, 'work' is always shown.
Homework is practice—
Mistakes are made, discovered and fixed . . . and then we practice some more!

Ch 6 Ratios and Proportions
Due 3/14 — 6-1 #27, 32, MR; 6-2 25, 26, 28-31, 32, 33, 34-37, 50, 51, 55-59, 60, 77-80; 6-3 #4-7, 10-14

Ch 5 Operations with Fractions
Th 2/17 — Due Tuesday— Measurement worksheet.
W 2/16 — Due Equation Worksheets: Reteaching 5-7 and Reteaching 5-8. Try to get three in a row! If you didn't get 3 in a row correct, finish for HW; or Algebraic Fractions Worksheet.
T 2/15
— DUE Equation work:5-7 #14-19, 50-54 and 5-8 #36-41, 66-72 or Enrichment worksheet. Show work!
F 2/11—DUE Do Equation work if you made fewer than 3 errors on the Quiz; also do 5-7 #50-54 and 5-8 #66-72. If you made 3 or more errors on the quiz, do the work indicated next to the problem you erred on; also do 5-1 #64, 65, 68, 69, and 5-2 55, 59, and 60.
Th 2/10 — DUE Make flashcards for the fraction-decimal equivalents. In class take Quiz on fraction operations.
W 2/9 — DUE 2 worksheets, both sides (talk to MM or a friend to know which ones to do)
T 2/8 — DUE 5-1 and 5-2 Quickchecks
F 2/4 — DUE Ch 5 test p. 286 as a pretest; no calculator

NB: Some dates may need to be revised as we get into standardized testing.
Changes 1-9 and 1-10 were done in class. Ch Rev evens and odds are due T 10/5 and W 10/6 respectively.

We had our quiz on Fibonacci today! Now it's on to Algebraic Expressions and lots of practice with integers.

The Fibonacci Sequence

—aka How to get the summer rust out of brains while learning cool stuff

Fibonacci Assignment Sheet
Weekend 9/10-9/13—Make a Golden Rectangle with your Fibonacci Squares. Do a Minute too.
Thursday night 9/9—Do the homework for Wednesday too (since we missed class Wed).

Rabbits led us to find the correct numbers; inductive reasoning (and careful addition) helped to find the higher numbers. Time in the computer lab showed how these numbers appear in nature—remember the male bee? Ratios of these numbers lead to the Golden Ratio—a ratio also found in nature, art and architecture! Finally, the Fibonacci sequence will enable us to draw a logarithmic spiral (as well as introducing the Pythagorean Thm and lots of practice using a compass)!!! Whew!
