I hope you've been staying warm this past week! With all the hustle and bustle in the room we haven't noticed the arctic temperatures! Here's what we did this week.
In Math we began the week by taking a look at the different patterns on the hundreds charts. Later on in the week we moved towards finding 100 partners and counting different coin combinations. We had our first Math Switch Up today. This is a chance for the first graders to go into another first grade room and work on math concepts that are just right for them. We hope to do this on a bi monthly basis.
During communications this week we have been working on writing a narrative story. We began brainstorming ideas by filling in sentence starters about a special day, night and place. Once we chose our topic we filled out a story map to make sure we could add enough details to our paragraph. We began talking about syllable division on Wednesday. The first graders were introduced to open and closed syllables. They were very interested in dividing up bigger words into syllables. Our comprehension focus this week was on main idea and details, and our word work involved making compound words.
Religion: We completed lesson 3 in Growing in Love. Please see the family guide for additional at home activities. In class we have been talking a lot about the Golden Rule and how we show love for God and for others.
