Note to Parents:

Hola! Me llamo Katy Eiden. Soy la maestra de español en grados 7 y 8.  It would be great if you could ask your students what they learned in Spanish on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Also, learning a second language requires practice beyond the limited classroom instruction each week.  The students should try to use their Spanish daily at home.  Have them teach you!

With our new book series Realidades, 7th and 8th grade students will have a Spanish computer lab day.  There they will practice vocabulary, do activities and practice games, take practice quizzes, watch dvd film clips of kids in Spanish speaking countries, among other things.  This series features online practice for access at home as well.

In class, we are doing this Prepositions rhyme:
                                       Izquierda, derecha
                                        delante, detrás
                                        cerca y lejos,
                                         y algo más;
                                         abajo, arriba
                                         enfrente, encima
                                         y ahora, amigos, se acaba la rima.

La clase de octavo grado:
¡bienvenidos a la clase de español!   Estudiantes de octavo grado van a continuar con el libro Realidades A en capítulo 4.  Cuando terminamos, usaremos Realidades B.  Students in 8th grade will continue learning curriculum for Level 1 of the National Spanish Standards.  The jr. high series is a 2-year program that equals the material of 1 year of high school.  Students will be assessed in listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar acquisition as well as cultural material.  Participation, using Spanish, is a very important part of the class.

La clase de séptimo grado:
¡bienvenidos a la clase de español!  Estudiantes de séptimo grado van a empezar en el libro de Realidades A.  Students in 7th grade will learn curriculum for Level 1 of the National Spanish Standards.  The jr. high series is a 2-year program that equals the material of 1 year of high school.  The material we covered in 6th grade will lead into the new book and students will continue to review as well as acquire new concepts and vocabulary.
