Kindergarten Music:

At the end of 2nd Quarter, Kindergarten students will be able to:

Use vocal colors appropriately for pitch and style of music (sing, speak, whisper, call)
Identify the difference between steady beat and no steady beat, piano and forte, sound and rest, and fast and slow
Use musical characteristic vocabulary words correctly to analyze and describe instrumental and vocal music

Ask your student to sing one of these music class songs for you:

  • Kuma San (Japanese Teddy Bear Song)
  • 5 Little Jingle Bells
  • Git on Board Little Children

1st Grade Music:

At the end of 2nd Quarter, 1st grade students will be able to:

Identify the difference between steady beat and no steady beat, fast and slow, and lullaby and march, beats in 2’s and 3’s, and long and short sounds through movement
Use musical characteristic vocabulary words correctly to analyze and describe instrumental and vocal music

Ask your student to sing one of these music class songs for you:
Bluebells Cockleshells
Duermete Mi Nino
Butterfly

2nd Grade Music:

At the end of 2nd Quarter, 2nd grade students will be able to:

Read and write songs using ta, ti-ti, and rest
Read and write songs using Do, Mi, So, La
Use musical characteristic vocabulary words correctly to analyze and describe instrumental and vocal music

Ask your student to sing one of these music class songs for you:

Apple Tree

7th Grade Music, 2nd Quarter World Music Unit:

Ask your 7th grade student to answer these essential questions about Calypso Music:

How does improving our music literacy enhance our listening experience?
When were steel drums invented? Why? How are they made?
What is Carnival?
What is the purpose of Calypso music and how is it used in society and culture? Is this similar to how music is used in the United States?


8th Grade Music, 2nd Quarter World Music Unit:

Ask your 8th grade student to answer these essential questions about West African Music:

How does improving our music literacy enhance our listening experience?
How did the slave trade in the 17th and 18th centuries effect the music?
What are the major exports of the country of Ghana? How does this effect us in the United States?
How is a Kente cloth used in traditional ceremonies in Ghana and what do the colors symbolize?
How is music used in society in Ghana? Is this similar to how it is used in the United States?
