Important News:
All Students from the Lower Campus will be dismissed from the Upper
Campus on Friday, February 3. Our Eighth Grade Buddies will help with
dismissal and will walk the kindergarteners to the buses. Parent Pick
Up children will wait in the Christ the King gathering space for your
arrival. Please park in the CTK parking lot. Club Saint Children will
be bussed to the Lower Campus. Please send a note for any
transportation changes. Thank you.
Winter clothing alert!!!
It is finally looking and feeling like a good old Minnesota winter. Please make sure your child has the proper clothing to go outside. Children need boots and snowpants, mittens, hats , a scarf or neck warmer is a good idea too. We do not go outside if the temperature or wind chill is below zero at recess time. Thank you!!!
...also, with the snow melting, sending an extra pair of socks and even an extra pair of pants may help your child be comfortable after recess.
Highlights for week of January 30-February2, 2012
Classroom Highlights: Catholic Schools Week, Art Adventure, Chinese New Year, Ground Hog Day,
Religion: This week we read our Promise news about our teachers. We did service this week, giving to "Jugs for Jabby", giving food to Waite House, making Valentines for our Homebound Elders. Today we discussed why we do service. The kids know why. Our growing in love lessons teach us, we are made to love. God made us ...to love. It is that simple....and that difficult.
Waite
House: 160 items
Communication: We finished our Unit called "Around the Table" and will start a new one called "Silly Business".
Let's keep practicing those short vowel sounds. We did have time to get back into the routine of having our small reading groups. Children are making progress. Thank you for helping them at home.
Literature we read: The Clown of God, It's Groundhog Day, Fluffy and the Groundhog, The Penguin that wanted to Fly.
Words We Are Reading: my, a, I, the, like, and , we, to, am, see.
Math: We worked with numbers up to 100, story problems, coins and we keep on practicing writing numbers the correct way. Number 6 is a hard one for many children. Let's keep practicing.
Science: Well, we started our ice experiment. Not the perfect week to watch ice! But the children voted to persevere on and keep the experiment going. We did each bring a cup of snow into the classroom. The children notice how it melted and that it is very dirty. We are trying to each voice our own observation about the experiments.
Social Studies:
Art Adventure: This week we learned about a beautiful arch and a beautiful Tzaidiki box. We made our own boxes!
Choice time: house, dollhouse, puppet theatre, making houses out of paper, making purple and green collages, painting,
For your calendar...

2-15 "Harold and the Purple Crayon" play at Children's Theatre/10:30 performance, bus leaving at 9:55 sharp

We're starting a new year!! It's going to be GREAT! Please read...
Kindergarten has begun! We will spend our time getting to know each other, and we will work hard at learning how to be at school. We are sure the children will be tired when they return home after the first day of class.
Here are some super important notes:
Dismissal Procedures: A big part of every day is going home. We have your transportation plans on file and in the classroom. It is so important to us and to your child that they know where they are going after school. Often there are changes, such as doctor appointments, piano lessons or play plans with friends. If you have a change in plans, other than what you indicated on forms, we MUST have written notification about this. We will not take the word of your child, because this is such a big safety issue. Also, make sure your child has a Bus Tag. If you pick them up, just write “Parent Pick up”
- If you or your nanny will be picking your child up from school please wait on the grassy area on the South Side of the building. The children will wait for you there with their teacher. We will invite them to go meet you. They must wait until we invite them, so that we are very sure every child is going with the correct adult. If they run to you right away. We will ask them to come back and wait and practice this procedure.
- If your child is riding the bus, we will make sure they are in the correct bus line. Please try to be at the bus stop five minutes early, but also expect that the bus could be late the first couple of days of school.
- If your child goes to Club Saint, we will make sure they arrive at the Club Saint room.
- If your child will be riding home with another student, a note and/or email should be sent with your child to the teacher the day of the playdate. Last minute changes should be phoned into Lenore, since teachers may not check email during class time. The end of the day is busy, so the sooner you can contact the school, the better.
Dismissal is at 4:20.
Every child should have a Bus Tag. If you don’t have a Bus Tag, please put the following information on an index card and attach to your child’s backpack:
- School Name
- Room Number/Teacher’s name
- Child’s Name
- Address
- Phone number
- Day Care Phone and Address (If appropriate)
- Bus Number In to school with streets
- Bus Number out from school with streets
Post the kindergarten calendars your child brings home.
If your child has “kindergarten tummy” (is missing you, which is normal, and often it happens more the 2nd and 3rd week of school) help your child by putting a photo of you in their backpack or pocket. They can take a peek whenever they want to.
We have food allergies in the kindergarten class, as is becoming the norm in schools. If a class has a student with allergies, that class will follow allergy awareness procedures and will not bring any food or drink besides water into the classroom.
Kindergarteners have an afternoon snack: milk (school provides) and fresh fruit or vegetable (parents provide). You may want to chat with your child about saving that afternoon snack food in their lunchbox. We will supply snack the first week of school.
Birthday Celebrations: Out of concern for students’ overall wellness, Carondelet has decided to eliminate birthday treats from the school day. Instead, students will be given an out-of-uniform day on their birthday and will also be invited to lunch with the Principal during their birthday month. Teachers will also have their own classroom traditions. We love Birthdays!!
